Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 1/2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
raisins, optional
Preparation
Cream butter and sugar together until smooth. Add eggs, salt and vanilla extract and blend well. Mix baking soda with milk, or use one cup buttermilk or sour milk. In separate bowl, stir baking powder into flour. To the creamed mixture, add the milk alternately with the dry ingredients, until all are used.
Roll out on a floured bread board and cut into circles, or use cookie cutters of you choice. Sprinkle sugar on top and place a raisin in the center. Place in a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes or until light brown.
