Ingredients

28 ounce can whole peeled tomatoes

(I like Muir Glen)

3 T Butter

2 T Olive Oli

1 medium Onion, peeled and halved

Big Pinch of Red Pepper Flakes

1 tsp Fennel Seeds

1 large clove of Garlic, minced

1 tsp Sugar

Salt & Pepper

Big handful of chopped fresh Basil (later)

Preparation

Pour everything above in a pot except basil Arrange the onions cut face down. Add one big stalk of basil leaves (whole) Bring to a simmer Cover with lid slightly ajar Allow to simmer for about 35-50 minutes, breaking up the tomatoes as they cook down Allow to cool slightly Remove the onions, pour in blender, and blend for 3-4 seconds, enough to break down tomatoes Add basil if desired
