Ingredients

1 lb. navy beans

2 tsp. black pepper

1/3 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup soy sauce

1 tbsp. liquid smoke

1 tbsp. distilled vinegar

Preparation

  1. Soak beans overnight, rinse, and drain.

  2. Add 5 cups water, soy sauce, maple syrup, vinegar, liquid smoke, and pepper and bring to a boil.

  3. Quickly reduce heat and cover. Simmer an hour and a half to two hours, or until beans are soft.

  4. Uncover and boil until sauce thickens. Serve hot.
